Sodium sulfate

(Crystal and Powder)

Other Names:
Thenardite sodium sulfate. Glauber’s salt
IUPAC Name:
Disodium sulfate

General Introduction of Sodium Sulfate:

Sodium sulfate is a branch of sulfate salts which is shown by Na2SO4 formula and is produced by mineral processing and various chemical methods, and its mineral form needs purification, acidity and density regulation and recrystallizing in several stages due to high impurity comparing to chemical sample and containing high amounts of other salts and heavy metals.
It is one of the slats existing in many groundwaters and surface waters and it is one of the substances existing in precipitations.
It is a water-soluble salt and it is generally in the form of powder or white crystal with no smell and only in the result of high heat its physical form changes and its color may change

– Usage:

  • In Cleansers and Detergents Powder Industries: A major part of use of the sodium sulfate is in detergents and as a filler.
  • Animal Feed
  •  Pharmaceutical Industries
  • Glasswork Industries: it is used as an extractive factor for molten glass bubbles and it prevents the color of the glass from becoming milky.
  • Photography and Military Industries
  • Knitting industries and Dyeing Industries: It makes color to insert into the fabric texture evenly, and unlike sodium chloride it does not result in corrosion of the steel pipes. Sodium sulfate is useful in dyeing as a regulator of loads on the textile and fabric surface, in the printing of textile goods.
  • Paper Industries (Kraft Paper)

– Maintenance:

Keep in dry and cool place, out of interaction with other chemical materials such as acids and corrosive substances.
Consume up to two years after production.
Do not expose to direct sunlight and heat.

Warnings:

  • Avoid taking the material orally, in the case of swallow seek medical advice as soon as possible.
  • In the case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice as soon as possible. (its dust causes temporary damage to eyes)
  • Do not heat.
  • Avoid mixing with acidic or corrosive chemical materials.
  • Prevent water or steam from reaching the product.
